Today’s group was really unlike any of the previous groups. The psychiatrist challenges us about engaging with our feelings. She says that we must engage with our feelings, if we ever want to recover. She then told us that she’d had a discussion in another group, where someone had challenged her on not telling members about personality disorders, so she asked us what we thought about personality disorders. I am instantly take aback but I tell her I feel nervous about the idea as I had worked with offenders, who had PD and were quite extreme. She said that we were talking mainly about borderline personality disorder, not narcissistic or anti-social PDs. She told us she believed that most of us had personality disorders, and that is often why schema therapy is helpful as it was designed for those type of people.
