Today is National PTSD Awareness Day, so here are some facts and resources for those with PTSD or those who know someone with it. If you know of any helpful additions, comment below and I will add it!

The Facts: What is PTSD?

PTSD stands for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, PTSD develops after a terrifying ordeal that involved physical harm or the threat of physical harm. Anyone can be affected by PTSD: the one who was harmed, a witness of the harm, or a family member was harmed. It is prevalent in war veterans and those exposed to mugging, rape, torture, bombings, floods, earthquakes, etc.

Genetics and brain areas also play a role in the development of PTSD.
